Why Knowing What Needs to Change Isn't Enough

Most business owners know something needs to shift. They feel it. They talk about it. They may have even written it down on a goal sheet somewhere.

And yet, nothing changes.

It's not because they don't care. It's not because they lack ambition. It's because knowing what needs to change and actually changing it are two very different things.

Brian Tracy identified a simple but powerful formula that explains exactly why:

Change = (Dissatisfaction + Vision + First Steps) > Cost of Change

For real, lasting change to happen, three things must outweigh your resistance to it:

🔴 Dissatisfaction - The pain of staying where you are must be greater than the fear of moving forward
🔵 Vision - You must be able to clearly see what success looks like on the other side
✅ First Steps - You need a concrete, actionable starting point, not just a big goal

Here's where most business owners get stuck: they have the dissatisfaction and the vision, but they're paralyzed when it comes to the first steps. The goal feels too big, the path feels unclear, and so they stay exactly where they are.

The breakthrough comes when you stop trying to solve the whole problem at once and instead ask, "What is the ONE thing I can do this week that would move me in the right direction?

That's how change actually starts, not with a massive overhaul, but with one deliberate step forward.

This is Week 2 of our ongoing series, Stop Being the Bottleneck: practical tools and strategies to help you build a business that grows without constantly needing you in the middle of everything.
