Students From Two Countries Unite At Pace Brantley Preparatory School

(Longwood, Florida) Pace Brantley Preparatory School recently had the honor of welcoming a travel basketball team from Denmark during the team's visit to the United States. The Danish students engaged in a cultural exchange with Pace students, touring the campus and participating in various activities together.

The visit allowed the students to bridge cultures through shared interests and show the different ways of teaching and learning at Pace Brantley Preparatory School. The Denmark students explored PBPS’s Makerspace and were very excited to see all the flexible seating options, classroom decor, and learning manipulatives used throughout our normal day. They were amazed at the school’s greenhouse, garden, and especially the aquaponic system!

The visitors were particularly impressed by Pace's robust Fine Arts program, including the drama department which their school in Denmark lacks. To showcase Pace's theatrical talents, the cast of the upcoming musical "Aladdin" performed an impromptu scene which delighted the Danish guests.

A highlight of the visit was a basketball game between the Danish team and Pace's own Eagles team. The entire school came to watch the game and the air filled with excitement and school spirit as the two sides took to the court. While the scoreboard declared a winner, the real victory was the cross-cultural connection forged through the shared love of sports. As the players shook hands, new friendships were formed between the students from Denmark and their American counterparts. 

The Danish coach expressed that "this was the best experience of our whole trip, with amazing teachers and kids."

Phone numbers, emails, and social media were exchanged by students and adults alike. Our new friends were extremely grateful and the Pace students were sad to see them go.

"Opportunities like this allow our students to become global citizens," said Head of School Pamela Tapley. "We were honored to host these talented young athletes and extend Pace's hospitality."

Pace Brantley Preparatory School is an independent non-profit school for students with learning disabilities. PBPS has a special population of students with a wide variety of learning differences, such as Dyslexia, ADHD, Central Auditory Processing Disorder, and Language Delay. Pace Brantley was founded in 1972 and currently serves over 120 students from four surrounding counties and 37 zip codes, ranging from first grade through
twelfth grade. The school provides a full academic curriculum, small student/teacher ratios, the latest in educational techniques and technology, and confidence building skills to all of our students. The mission of Pace Brantley Preparatory School is to provide innovative research-based instruction, in order to maximize learning opportunities while building self-confidence, and prepares students for life and career readiness.
