Seminole County Public Schools Educators Nominated for National LifeChanger of the Year Award

Jason Litt of Keeth Elementary School, Vernard Moore of Millennium Middle School, and Jennifer Petitt of Hamilton Elementary School have been nominated for National Life Group’s 2024-25 LifeChanger of the Year award. Sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence, and leadership.

Litt was nominated by an anonymous parent of a student for being an extraordinary music teacher. His boundless energy, creativity, and genuine care create an environment where students thrive. Through his after-school programs—like the steel drums club, Chimers handbell choir, Orff ensemble, Curtain Call musical ensemble, and student chorus—he inspires students to develop a love for music and the arts.

“What truly sets Mr. Litt apart is his ability to connect with people. He's a positive role model who motivates students while building their confidence and teamwork skills,” said the parent.

Moore was nominated by Tony D’Abbondanza for his profound impact as a science teacher and mentor. Beyond fostering academic success, he prepares students for life's challenges. His influence extends beyond the classroom through his leadership course, "Young Men of Distinction," where students reflect on habits, priorities, and decision-making. This program exemplifies his dedication to cultivating future leaders and empowering students to thrive in society.

Last year, Moore was recognized as Seminole County’s "Teacher of the Month" and named "Teacher of the Year" at Millennium Middle School.

"Vernard Moore makes a difference here in Sanford. He loves what he does and changes the lives of these young students every day," said D’Abbondanza.

Petitt was nominated anonymously for her unique ability to connect with students facing significant challenges. Currently serving as the ESE Team Leader, Petitt provides direct instruction to help students achieve their IEP goals and mentors fellow ESE teachers in academic development.

"Jennifer is a dedicated professional with a positive attitude. Her leadership and expertise have made her an invaluable member of Hamilton’s faculty,” said the nominator.
