Seminole County Accepts Generous Donation of 10 Starlink Mini Kits from Congressman Mills

Seminole County is proud to announce the acceptance of 10 Starlink Mini Kits, generously donated by Congressman Cory Mills, to enhance the County's emergency communication capabilities. The donation was presented at the Seminole County Emergency Operations Center, where Seminole County Vice Chair Andria Herr, Sheriff Dennis Lemma, County Manager Darren Gray, and Fire Chief Matt Kinley were in attendance to accept the gift on behalf of the County.

During the presentation, Congressman Mills also honored Alan Harris, Director of the Seminole County Office of Emergency Management, with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition. The award recognized Harris for his outstanding dedication and leadership to the community during the aftermath of hurricanes Helene and Milton. Harris has been instrumental in coordinating the County's emergency response and ensuring that critical resources are deployed efficiently.

"Alan’s leadership and commitment to Seminole County have been invaluable, especially during these challenging times," said Congressman Mills. "This recognition is a testament to his hard work and the exceptional efforts of his team."

The Starlink Mini Kits, a satellite-based internet system developed by SpaceX, will significantly improve the County’s ability to maintain communication during emergencies and natural disasters. These kits provide reliable, high-speed internet service, even in remote areas or when traditional communication systems are disrupted.

Congressman Mills emphasized the importance of supporting local communities in preparing for and responding to disasters. "Ensuring that Seminole County has the tools it needs to respond effectively to emergencies is a priority," he said. "These Starlinks will provide a crucial line of communication when conventional systems go down."

This isn’t the first or last delivery organized by Congressman Mills. Immediately after the storm, a semi-truck of water, canned goods, toilet paper, diapers and other sanitary products was delivered, alongside 10 6,500W generators. These donations highlight the incredible support Seminole County has received from its community and partners, ensuring that critical resources continue to reach those in need during the recovery process.
