This week, Seminole County’s only homeless shelter was recognized for being among the best in the country by a group focused on finding housing for the homeless.
Virginia-based Entryway, which provides career training, employment and housing for those experiencing homelessness, named Rescue Outreach Mission as one of its Referring Partners of the Year. Other organizations recognized include United Way, Goodwill and the Apartment Association of Greater Orlando.
“We’ve worked hard to partner with all types of organizations that can help us achieve our mission of helping people find housing,” says Chris Ham, executive director, Rescue Outreach Mission. “Being recognized by Entryway is a tremendous honor as they work with organizations throughout the country.”
Entryway was formed in 2014 in Charlotte, North Carolina, through a national real estate investment, development, and construction firm, Middleburg Communities. Over the past 10 years, the program has grown to multiple markets, starting in Central Florida in 2022.
Over the past year, Rescue Outreach Mission has worked with Entryway to house individuals in permanent housing since then. One of the key ways Entryway helps is by providing opportunities in other markets.
An example was our work with Peter Canty, who came to Rescue Outreach Mission earlier this year after being unable to find housing. Working with Entryway, Peter was able to find work providing maintenance to an apartment complex in Alabama. It included housing.

“Often we find people experiencing homelessness have a support system in another city through family and friends, but they don’t have the resources to get to there,” Ham says. “By working with groups like Entryway, we’re often able to provide the transportation and Entryway helps them build the foundation needed for success in those markets.”
