Seminole State College of Florida is offering the Summer Bridge program this summer, a unique program designed in partnership with Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) for 2025 high school graduates. Through the program, students will take two courses over the Summer Term B session, which runs June 25 – Aug. 6, and the College will use available financial aid and/or institutional funds to cover tuition, fees and books so students will have no out-of-pocket costs. The deadline to apply for the program is May 30.
“No matter if you are a student looking to complete a bachelor's degree with us, use DirectConnect to UCF® or explore a different option, the Summer Bridge Program is a great way to get started,” said Interim Director of Admissions and Recruiting Jennifer Buchhorn. “For students who feel anxious about starting college, the program offers an opportunity to try it out and discover that they are capable of succeeding when given the support of staff and faculty.”
Through the Summer Bridge program, students will take the College’s first year experience course that will connect them to the resources throughout Seminole State and encourage them to explore different career pathways and extracurricular opportunities in their fields of interest. They will also be allowed to choose between one of seven electives, some offering honors options, for a total of two classes that have embedded tutors and librarians for extra academic support.
As the program was created in partnership with SCPS, priority for the program will be given to SCPS graduates, but all 2025 Florida high school graduates are welcome to apply.
George Nabors 2024 Summer Bridge Participant
After gaining inspiration from volunteering at the medical and dental clinic in Longwood for low-income patients, Nabors felt drawn to the healthcare industry. He is now a registered dental assistant and is working toward becoming a certified nursing assistant, working a job with more flexibility as he finishes his prerequisites at Seminole State in hopes of enrolling in the college's top-ranked nursing program. "I wanted something with grit and that challenges me every day where I can build relationships," Nabors said. Ultimately, his goal is to go to dental school and to become an oral surgeon.
