Health Care Trend: Male Nurses At AdventHealth Have Increased 70%, As More Men Than Ever Join Nursin

This Nurses Week, AdventHealth is celebrating and sharing stories about our nurses, who are the heart of our care team.

One trend impacting the nursing labor force is the rise in male nurses. Since 2019, the number of male nurses working across the U.S. at AdventHealth has increased 70%, growing from 2,029 to 3,457, and currently make up about 14% of the health system’s nationwide RN workforce.

Locally, the number of male nurses working across AdventHealth’s Central Florida locations has increased by 48%, from 895 to 1,320, and make up 16% of the Orlando-area RN workforce.

About National Nurses Week (May 6-12)
Since 1954, National Nurses Week has served as a reminder of the inspiring and lifesaving work nurses do every day. Coinciding with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, caretaker of wounded soldiers during the Crimean War and founder of modern-day nursing, National Nurses Week is an opportunity to recognize the nurses who care for our community.
