Did You Hear The News?? $15 Student Rush Tickets And...

Opera Orlando is pleased to announce $15 student rush tickets for the Saturday performances of the Florida premiere of Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha presented in the Alexis + Jim Pugh Theater at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts this weekend. Rush tickets are discounted to $15 and will be available two hours before showtime at the Dr. Phillips Center Box Office for both Saturday performances at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Students and faculty may receive two tickets per valid institutional ID from any and all schools and universities.

 

“Be a part of history and the amazing legacy of this work being presented in Florida for the first time with a fresh and vibrant take thanks to the staging and choreography of Roberta Emerson and Bethany Hemmans,” said Gabriel Preisser, general director of Opera Orlando. “Opera Orlando is proud to partner with our friends in education and allow faculty, staff, and students an affordable way to access the arts.”

Stage director Roberta Emerson and conductor Everett McCorvey lead a star-studded cast with soprano Taylor-Alexis DuPont in the title role, joined by tenor Leo Williams as Remus, Broadway star Brian Love as Zodzetrick, soprano NaGuanda Nobles as Monisha, baritone Geoffrey Peterson as Simon, and bass-baritone Lloyd Reshard, Jr. as Ned. Opera Orlando Studio Artists Thandolwethu Mamba and Kristen Marie Gillis round out the cast as Parson Alltalk and Lucy with Opera Orlando SINGS alumni Israel Anderson and Karl Auguste as Andy and Cephus. Opera Orlando Chorus members are joined by students from Bethune-Cookman University and members of the Opera Orlando Youth Company to round out the ensemble for the production, along with local dancers led by choreographer Bethany Hemmans and dance captain Montez Walker.

Opera Orlando concludes its 2024-25 Destiny + Desire Season with the Florida premiere of Scott Joplin’s Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Treemonisha, America’s “first opera” and a true celebration of community and family.

Estimated run time is one hour and 30 minutes with no intermission. A pre-show talk, free for all ticket holders, will be held on stage 50 minutes prior to each performance. The theater will be in a thrust configuration, with seating on three sides.

 

Treemonisha is graciously supported by the Universal Orlando Foundation and presented in partnership with the ZORA! Festival, the Association to Preserve the Eatonville Community and Bethune-Cookman University. Treemonisha stage director, Roberta Emerson, is a recipient of the OPERA America 2024 Opera Grant for Women Stage Directors and Conductors. Generously supported by the Marineau Family Foundation.
