Altamonte Springs, Fla. (August 8, 2024) – The City of Altamonte Springs continues to uphold its tradition of excellence in youth sports this year with the Altamonte Baseball Academy (ABA) and Altamonte Fastpitch Academy (AFA) earning spots in this year’s Babe Ruth World Series events. These accomplishments reflect years of dedication, hard work and a steadfast commitment to developing young talent.
The 2024 Babe Ruth All-Star season began with 12 teams competing at the district level. The AFA 6U won their district championship in a nail-bitter 19-18 win over Oviedo, while the 10U team won in commanding fashion with a 15-0 win against Longwood. Likewise, the ABA 11U, 13U and 14U teams combined were district champs outscoring their opponents 129-8. These teams showcased their dominance by outperforming their opponents with impressive margins.
The AFA 10U All-Stars made history by earning an invitation to the 2024 Babe Ruth World Series in Florence, AL, marking the AFA’s debut at this prestigious event. The team excelled in pool play with a flawless 4-0 record, outscoring their opponents 24-7. They secured the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye after defeating the 2023 champions. In a thrilling quarterfinal match, the 10U girls edged out Pennsylvania 8-7 and then overcame Virginia 5-4 in the semifinals. They ultimately reached the championship game and finished as the World Series runners-up on July 31.
At the state level, the ABA 11U team claimed the state championship, while the 13U and 14U teams finished as runners-up, all qualifying for the Southeast Regional tournaments. At the Southeast Regionals in Clemmons, NC, the ABA 11U All-Stars completed a perfect 6-0 run, defeating teams from Florida, North Carolina and Virginia. This remarkable achievement earned them a spot in the 2024 Cal Ripken Baseball World Series in Florence, AL for the third consecutive year and qualifies them to participate in next year’s Cal Ripken Major/70 World Series. The ABA 11U team finished pool play with a record of 3-1, having outscored their opponents 26-7. They will enter bracket play as the No. 3 seed and play today at 4 p.m.
The ABA 13U All-Star team has also achieved Regional Champion status, finishing with a perfect 4-0 record in Tallahassee, FL. They triumphed over teams from North Carolina, Virginia and Florida, earning a spot in the World Series in Glen Allen, VA. The ABA 13U All Stars will play their first game on Saturday, August 10 at 10 a.m.
The experience of multiple appearances at the Babe Ruth World Series has set a new standard of excellence for youth sports in Altamonte Springs. With a strong foundation and a proven track record of success, the ABA and AFA are poised to continue shaping the next generation of athletes.
