5 Reasons to Never Buy a List

Here are 5 reasons why you should never buy a list:
 
1. Buying an email list in itself is not illegal but sending messages to people without their explicit consent IS illegal in many countries. This is determined by laws where the email recipient lives, not who's sending it.
 
2. You don’t know whether the broker you bought the list from obtained consent from the contacts that they're selling you. Often the addresses that are harvested by mailbots that crawl the Internet looking for them. Get explicit consent.
 
3. You risk damaging your email sender reputation and get flagged as a spammer. If that happens, email service providers will block your emails from ever being delivered and you won't even know it.
 
4. You'll get poor results from your email campaigns. If you're sending stuff and people aren't opening it, your delivery rate goes down, your sender reputation goes down, people may open it and mark you as a spammer.
 
5. The best email marketing platforms simply don't allow the use of purchased lists on their service. They don't want to enable spammers or promote spammy activity. Legitimate email service providers don't want to help spammers, so if their A.I. figures out that what you're uploading is a purchased list, they're going to block you.
